HISTORY

Love In Action (LIA) was birthed in the summer of 2020, following a vision from God that the founder, Brother Durand Adams, received during a visit to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Lord directed him to create a ministry that would embody love through action, as inspired by 1 John 3:18. Upon returning home, Durand and his team began laying the groundwork, starting with a house church where Bible studies were held every Tuesday night. The ministry’s first act of outreach involved gathering gently used clothing from participants’ closets and transforming the house's porch into a sanctuary for distributing these items to people in need throughout the City of Chester, Pennsylvania.

As the ministry grew, LIA embraced its identity as an apostolic church house, prayer hub, and equipping center. The foundation was blessed with an apostolic mandate by Bro. Durand’s spiritual Father, the late William M. Howie, III, affectionately known as “Bill,” charged the ministry with shepherding God’s people and advancing His Kingdom. From the beginning, the ministry relied on faith and divine provision, never needing to ask for donations more than once. God has consistently used individuals to bless LIA, ensuring a steady flow of clothing, shoes, toys, and household items. Volunteers work tirelessly to sort, set up, and distribute these items, ensuring the needs of hundreds of men, women, and children in the community are met.

Today, LIA operates as a multi-dimensional outreach ministry. Its core mission is soul-winning, offering prayer and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone the team encounters. During clothing distribution days, the porch sanctuary continues to serve as a place of spiritual and physical provision. Volunteers dedicate hours to setting up, distributing donations, and praying with those in need. The ministry plans to evolve to include not only clothing distribution but also food services, school supply drives, regular outreach events and referral connective services as a form of essential community resources.

As LIA continues to grow, it strives to establish a permanent building to house its operations, allowing for daily access to donations and related services. The ministry also aims to become a hub for revival and empowerment, providing spiritual training and equipping believers to operate in their God-given callings. With a vision rooted in evangelism and serving the community, LIA remains a vital source of hope, transformation, and reformation for the city of Chester, Pennsylvania, and beyond.
